Son of rally legend Stig, Tom has gone down the circuit racing route as opposed to his famous father. He grew up in New Zealand and raced in Formula Renault there, before moving back to Europe to race in British Formula Renault. He won the Formula Renault UK Championship in 2010. After two years in the Formula 3 Euroseries, he then moved into the European Formula 3 championship in 2012. But thereafter, his single-seater career stalled. He moved into the DTM in 2015, staying there for three seasons, before establishing himself in Formula E and sportscars, notably the World Endurance Championship. From 2019 onwards, he raced in IMSA, winning the 2022 IMSA Championship and the 2022 and 2023 Daytona 24 Hours. Tom also has a British and New Zealand race licence. He got his chance in Indycar in 2023 and did so well that he was retained in 2024. However it ended up being a struggle and after a first lap mishap at the Indianapolis 500, he was dropped and returned to sportscars, where he remained for 2025.
