An incredibly successful, experienced and popular campaigner, Rickard raced in Japan before a move to the BTCC in 1994. He stayed there for 6 years, with great success, winning the title in 1998. After a brief move into ALMS and GT cars, he went back in Touring cars, in the WTCC. In 2010, however he had a sabbatical and did commentating on Swedish Touring Car series on Swedish TV. In 2011, he returned to driving in Swedish touring cars and continued in that and the WTCC in 2012. However, from 2013 onwards, he couldn't find a drive and worked as a commentator for the F1 and GP2 coverage on Swedish TV. After a comeback for a couple of years from 2014, Rickard retired from driving in 2016 to concentrate on both his commentating and driver mentoring.
