Killed in a crash, dying of a head injury. Of Danish stock, his dad moved to California after his wife, Omar's mum, died in 1892. Worked as a farmer and promoter, before moving for both work and racing, becoming a self-employed car mechanic in Chicago, with his father moving to Illinois and joining him in the business. Toft made his name racing in endurance road events before switching to board track racing. More often that not, Toft entered and worked on his own specials for his racing events. By the time he was killed, Omar had scaled back from racing and largely raced in tandem with his promoting duties only.
