Raced in single-seaters for some while. An oil driller by profession at time of racing in CART, he is still in the industry as he runs an oil and gas exploration business. Wood was yet another of the many ski-iers who have moved into motor racing; Jeff specialising in downhill skiing as a youngster. Wood started racing in 1976 in US Formula Ford. Wood impressed in Can-Am and sportscars before making his Champcar debut in 1983. He often raced on and off in the series; he won the 1985 North American Formula Atlantic Western Division Championship whilst without a Champcar drive and this allowed him some momentum which he carried on until 1994.
