Heikki has now left Formula 1 and for many years was in Japanese Super GT. He moved back to Europe in 2022 to race sportscars. Was with Caterham as a racer, and latterly, a test driver, after driving spells with McLaren and Renault, which included one win (whilst at McLaren). However, he did also make a two race appearance return to cover for the injured Raikkonen at Lotus in 2013. It didn't go that spectacularly and left him without a race drive until his move to the Far East. He is now a rally driver, competing in Japan (winning the 2022 Championship) and has also competed in the World Rally Championship and the Finnish Championship. He continued that in 2023, but had to put his racing career on hold due to an enlarged aorta in his heart, an hereditary problem. His open-heart surgery and the recovery needed could have meant a probable stop to racing, however, his recovery went well and he is back in rallying.
