Took over his family's Eaton department store concern but money problems led to its collapse in 1997. George, at the helm at the time, got a lot of flak and is now retired. He hasn't had a good few recent years, as his wife has had ill health and on top of all this, George then was embroiled in a legal fight over selling his home. However, in more recent years, Eaton has been able to do more, especially in philanthropic circles and his wife is now better. Eaton serves on the board of the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation and he also serves as a trustee on the John David and Signy Eaton Charitable Foundation. George's grandfather was the first man in Canada to own a car, before founding the T.Eaton Co Ltd business. George also worked as a rock music promoter and as a stockbroker as a young man, the latter of which included a spell at Wall Street. Eaton didn't actually race for all that long, racing between 1966 and 1972, when he retired to concentrate on other interests.
