A graduate of karting, where he was a close rival of Fernando Alonso and then later on, Italian Formula 3000, del Monte raced in the FIA GT series and also in the Italian GT Championship after both his US spell and a short time as Midland's reserve driver. However further drives became difficult to find until 2014, when he raced in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. In 2016, he switched to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. In 2006, del Monte was rewarded by his home town with a special flag in a ceremony to mark his performances to put the city on the sporting map. Recently he has been in the E-STC series in a Tesla electric car, but is now a team manager in Italian GT racing.
