Raced in Champ Cars until 1999, but is probably best remembered for a bizarre accident in the 1994 Indy 500, when he crashed into Nigel Mansell in the pit-lane. Now runs Performance Promotions in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a sports marketing and promotions company. Vitolo has run this firm for many years and it allowed him, through marketing link-ups, to drive as and where he could when sponsorship allowed. Aside from single-seaters, Vitolo was a regular sportscar driver in the 1980's, often in a Tiga or Mazda car, being a regular at the Daytona 24 Hours. His best sportscar result was in 1985, when he finished ninth at the Pocono 500 Kilometres IMSA race.
