Killed in a private plane crash. Tremendously successful driver, mostly in GT's. He was also president of the Porsche 962 sports car team and ran his own successful car dealership and also served as director of Porsche's Indy car effort. A Christian, he also assisted Motorsports Ministries. Won Le Mans three times, the last coming in 1987. He was also five time IMSA Champion between 1976 and 1986 and won the Sebring 12 Hours in 1976 and 1981. He was the son of a car dealer who also raced with the young Holbert working as a apprentice for Mark Donohue's Can-Am team before working in the family dealership before eventually starting racing in 1971.
