Swiss designer, born in Germany to a Swiss/Italian father and a Polish mother, but with a strong Kurdish ancestry as well! Colani was born as Lutz, but changed his name to Luigi in 1957. Quite well known for his unusual designs, he has worked on Fiat bodywork, road cars (Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Volkswagen, BMW), racing cars, aeroplanes, robots, jewellery, yachts, computers, buildings, furniture, dishware, glasses, cameras, televisions, clothing, toilets, kitchens and much, much more, including pens and even a grand piano, in an extremely varied and successful career worldwide. Died after a short illness in Karlsruhe, in Germany but was previously based in America, Japan, France, Switzerland and Italy.
