Born:

20 Oct 1942
Lucerne

Nationality:

Switzerland

Teams:

Eurobrun (1988-1990)

Former sportscar owner who gained his fortune from the slot machine industry. Continued race driving until quite recently, being an ALMS irregular until 2002. Now lives in Kastanienbaum in Switzerland, and still has motorsport and business interests, including a restaurant. Walter is a keen jazz fan and still plays saxophone for a band in Switzerland. Walter's legacy is his Brun racing team, but he was a long-time driver, who raced at Le Mans between 1971 and 2003, finishing fourth in 1984. As a team owner and manager though, the highlight was winning the 1986 World Sportscar Championship. Walter ran the team from 1983 until 1992 but the team suffered through its involvement in Formula 1 financially. Before starting racing, Walter worked for Swiss Post as a clerk. As well as slot machines, Brun worked in the alcoholic drinks industry and had a nightclub as well.
