Cory Witherill
Born: |
17 Dec 1971 |
Nationality: |
United States |
Indy 500s: | 1 (2001) |
The only full-blooded Native American to race in the Indy 500. Cory, a Navajo Indian, acts as an ambassador for them but links up with as many Native American causes, functions, charity events (especially related to diabetes) and community assocation work as he can and acts as a driver coach too. No longer racing, but had a spell in off-road events, although in 2017, he did appear in the SVRA Indy Legends Pro-Am race. As well as single seaters, Cory also raced in sprint cars and the ARCA series. Cory still lives in California, in Santa Monica. Other than his quite stunning performance to qualify in 2001, Witherill's greatest racing achievement would have to be winning the Nashville Indy Pro race in 2002.
