Occasional tester for McFarlan who had a few years in the sport from 1910 onwards. Mainly worked in the automobile trade as a mechanic or engineer. There is dispute over whether Bert, whose real first name was William, actually raced in the first event due to varying degrees of accurate records. Bert later worked as an engineer for a fire appliance company. Adams died one day after his 67th birthday, after being ill for a long time.
