The 1997 Indianapolis 500 put him in a small group of drivers in its history - including Harroun, Chiron, Holbert and many others, to finish in the top 10 with their only start. He had 5 wins in Super Vee and Indy Lights, narrowly missing both championships in 1989 and 1991 in extraordinary fashion, impacting the momentum of his remaining formula car career.
