Nicky, as a younger driver, was aiming for F1, but a test deal fell through and so he moved to America. Left without a drive for a bit afterwards, he did some commentating, then appeared in Dutch Supercars, ALMS, the FIA GT series and then GTOC in 2013 and 2014. Nicky still races - no longer full time - but his main day to day involvement is in the family business of Italian classic cars. Nicky runs his own business along the same lines but works on buying, selling, restoring and maintaining classic cars. In more recent years, he has been doing more historic racing. He mainly bases himself in his workshop at Maranello.
