Son of LA Times publisher, Otis, who died in 2006. Michael did reasonably until a crash in 1984, in which he was lucky to survive, virtually ended his blossoming career. Michael still has the scars and a form of memory loss as a consequence. He then joined the family business, but at a lower level, as a handyman and mechanic, eventually working his way up. After a third marriage seemed to restore better relations with his father, which had drifted a little bit, he took advantage of a company buy-out to move to a ranch at Bend, Oregon, where he still lives. Suffered, but survived, a heart-attack in 2000. Chandler raced in motocross and ski-ied as a teenager before taking up racing. Michael runs the ranch, enjoys cycling and is now married a fourth time.
