An IRL irregular until his 2004 Indianapolis win, Buddy also raced in A1 GP and the American Le Mans Series, as well as also winning at Daytona in 2009. Now concentrates most of his time on his karting business, which comprises a karting team, and importing and exporting of karts. He is also an engine tuner and has a large classic car collection. He also works as a driver coach and spotter. Despite Buddy's father building and racing dragsters, it was baseball that was Buddy's initial sporting love and he only switched to racing in his late teen's. As well as Daytona and Indianapolis, Buddy was the 2000 North American Toyota Atlantic champion. In 2017, Rice made a surprise return to racing, competing in the Prototype category of the US Sportscar Series.
