British Sprint Championship 1973
A thrilling battle between Johnty Williamson and John Ravenscroft was let down by cancelled events. Twelve events were scheduled but rounds at Pershore, Gaydon, Moreton in Marsh and Tern Hill fell away, leaving an eight-round series which was due to finish with the Weston Speed Trials and then Little Rissington. Just before Weston, Little Rissington was also cancelled, which left only seven events, so RAC rules said that the best five scores would count. Ravenscroft already had 48 points for four wins and a third, a score Williamson could not overhaul even if he won at Weston, so the title was decided in disappointing fashion.

The points system for the championship remained the same as that used for the Hill Climb championship, awarding 10 points for the fastest time in the runoff, then 9 for second and on down to one point for tenth place (R.A.C Motor Sport Year Book 1973 p114). There was no longer an extra point awarded for beating the course's previous record time.
