Still lives in Ontario, where he has an interest in local history and politics. Tom raced on both sides of the border during the 1980's; he raced in Canadian Formula Ford 2000, finishing 14th in the series in 1988, and in the ARS and subsequent Indy Lights series in America; his best finish being 4th twice, in 1990, once at Mid-Ohio and once in his homeland in Vancouver. Christoff owned his own team and had plans to upgrade and move to CART with fellow driver Tommy Byrne. But Christoff, who was a businessman that ran a company called Landford, saw his line of work, property development suffer a downturn which meant the CART dream was scrapped. However, Brian Stewart, Tom's chief engineer then bought the remainder of the team and ran a long-time team in lower-formulae instead. Tom went back into the property business once racing was over but is now retired.
