Moved to Mercedes in 2013, after years with McLaren - with them, in 2008, he became the then youngest ever World Champion of the sport. Spotted as a youngster, he was groomed by McLaren and eventually promoted to the team in 2007. Awarded a MBE in 2008 and was knighted in 2020. However his career has seen much controversy with numerous incidents and arguments threatening to overshadow his undoubted talent - a talent that won him his second title in 2014 and then his third in 2015. More controversy followed before he won his fourth title in 2017 and then his fifth in 2018. He took two more successive titles and by the end of 2020, had won more races than any other driver. In 2025, after over a decade with Mercedes, he moved to Ferrari.
