Jolyon Palmer

20 Jan 1991 |
Nationality: |
Great Britain |
Grands Prix: | 34 (2016-2017) |
The son of Jonathan, Jolyon was the GP2 series champion in 2014. Jolyon started racing back in 2005, racing in the T-Car touring car championship, winning the T-Car Autumn Trophy that year. He then joined two racing series that his father ran - Formula Palmer Audi and then the new version (and brief) of Formula 2. But if anything, after an initial struggle, it was being in a championship without any links to his dad that Jolyon impressed in in GP2. After spending time as a test and reserve driver with them, Palmer stepped up to be Renault's Grand Prix driver in 2016 and remained there in 2017, but was dropped before the end of the year. Although it was initially a stop gap, Jolyon has now moved into a media career, doing commentary for the BBC on Formula 1 and working as a columnist.
