Metsos is American born and bred, but raced under a Greek licence. George's grandfather John emigrated from Greece in the early 20th century. He is better known in California for his restaurants, where he followed in the footsteps of his parents by running a number of eateries. Metsos started off as a cook in the family business before taking over at the Lamplighter Restaurant, which ran until 2006 at its North Hollywood base. He still owns and runs three other restaurants, two other Lamplighters in Chatsworth and Sherman Oaks as well as Pattie's in Toluca Lake. His racing career was quite short, but he remains interested in the sport and cars.
