1996 winner, son of Bob, brother of Jaques. He carried on racing at the Indianapolis 500 until 2017 and before the coronavirus pandemic hit, was planning to race in 2020, before it claimed the life of his father and put all other racing plans on permanent hold. As well as winning the Indy 500, he also became the 2000 IRL Champion. Buddy's first love was ski-ing and he competed in this sport initially before taking up karting and motocross in the early 1980's. Lazier, whose first name is actually Robert, like his father, also raced in Can-Am before making it in single-seaters. Buddy is now retired and has taken over running the Tivoli lodge in Vail, Colorado as well as other businesses. It allows him to still enjoying ski-ing. Buddy's son has also been racing so Buddy has helped him.
