Gianni was in touring cars for a long time after leaving Formula 1, and after a switch to the Le Mans European Series, he stayed in the discipline for some while, firstly in the WTCC, then Italian touring cars (which he won in 2007 and 2009). He, for some while, was in the relatively new touring car TCR International Series (European Version), but has also been in Italian GT's, ADAC GT Masters and Asian Speedcars (where he won the title in 2009) recently. Also won the 2013 Superstars Italian Touring Car series. Gianni is the son of Giancarlo Morbidelli, the famed motorbike manufacturer, who died in 2020. That same year saw Morbidelli move into the Euro NASCAR series but that was his last racing season. He was team principal of Team Ten K in the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup Italy but is largely a driver coach and instructor.
