Scottish Hill Climb Championship 1980

The single-seater classes were led by Norrie Galbraith, whose March 742/772 had been updated further and now had an ex-F2 Hart 420R engine. Bill Lord now had a 1978 F2 Chevron B42 still with its F2 engine, Jimmy Jack retained his March 772, and Jim Campbell the 2.2-litre Modus. Also, Brian Frazer had the 1600cc Argo JM1X and Bob Hutchinson had an ancient but well-prepared Tecno.

Outside the single-seater classes, Barrogill Angus continued to impress with his Davrian Stiletto with 2-litre Ford BDG engine in the large Special Saloon class. Kenny Allen had a very potent Clubmans Mallock U2 Mk 20 and won at Doune in June after Jack spun off. Nick Seymour finished second behind Allen at Doune in his Turbo Volnick, an ex-Autocross spaceframe creation that had been converted to sports racing specification in 1977.

The old Kinkell track had been dropped after the 1979 season and a new track at Strathclyde Park was just in time to take over from it.
