SCCA Formula B 1977

New Formula Atlantic cars continued to pour into SCCA Formula B. In Northeast Division, Ken Duclos in his brand new Chevron B39 defeated the new March 77Bs or Joe Sposato, RJ Nelkin and Peter Neumahr. Robert Fisher won Southeast Division in another March 77B, and Ken Briggs secured Northern Pacific after moving to a March 77B. One-year-old Lola T460s were still highly competitive, with Sandy Shepard winning Southwest and Sam Nicolosi winning Southern Pacific. Older Lola T360s took Rick Koehler to a narrow win in Central and J Robert Young to a fourth successive Midwest title. The latest Lola T560 did not sell well but Jerry Hansen only missed the CenDiv title by a single point in his example.

Brabhams had now faded away from the top placings, but Ron Tauranac's latest product was the Ralt RT1, which proved very effective for Kevin Cogan in Southern Pacific Division. A few other marques scored points, such as Lotus, Rondel, Elden, Merlyn, Tui and even Crosslé.

In terms of share of grid, March now dominated with 36%, followed by Lola on 19%, Chevron with 17% and Brabham down to 14%. Of the lesser marques, Lotus managed only 3%, Crosslé and Elden were each on 1.9%, Ralt on 1.7%, Rondel 1.5% and Merlyn and the others below 1%.
