Northern Pacific SCCA Formula B 1976
Steve Jizmagian took the title in his brand new Lola T460 thanks to a win at Portland's Rose Cup Races in June and a second at Seattle in July, but there were not many drivers trying that hard to win the NorPac title. With visitors from Cal Club making it difficult to score points at Sears Point and Laguna Seca, most of the pickings were to be found further north. Jon Norman won his class at Seattle in July, and finished fourth at Portland in August, following a strong third at the Laguna Seca June Sprints. Norman's teammate Dan Marvin won outright at Portland in August, but that was his only score.
Most of Ron Householder's points came from second place at Seattle in July, Bob Tracy's six points came for second place at the Rose Cup Races, and Bill Hill's score included fourth at the July Seattle, this group otherwise racing with ICSCC.
Of the other San Francisco Region drivers, Bill Cooper finished second at Sears Point in April, but did not return. Butch Owlsey was third in that race, but only scored one more point. Tom Foster picked up a few minor placings but also raced with the ICSCC. Gordon Strom was second behind south Californian Ron Dykes at Sears Point in August, with Tom Crowther third in his updated March. Tom Sauerbrei did well to take fourth in a big field at Riverside in February in his updated March 742.

Most of our knowledge of NorPac racing comes from the SCCA's Sports Car magazine, from Competition Press & Autoweek and from an extensive collection of San Francisco Region's The Wheel newsletter from 1971 onwards. We are very keen to acquire or borrow 1960s, 1970s and 1980s copies of all three of the main SCCA regional publications in this division:
