Businessman, who raced in endurance events in the early days of the sport in the USA. Frey, whose full name was William Howard, lived around or in Baltimore for the whole of his life. He worked as an oil well digger, a flour mill labourer, a wool mill weaver and then as a percher and then finally as a cloth inspector, as well as being a mechanic and occasional racing driver too. Frey married very young, but his wife, Ira was just fifteen when the two married but the two remained together until death. Frey owned a Mercer car which he also entered for a race at Long Island in 1910.
