Hugely successful sprint-car driver, and also a legend in the USAC Silver Crown series. Raced for years but a huge accident in 2002, in which he was lucky to survive, led to retirement. That was until 2014, when after 12 years out, and aged over 60, Hewitt returned to race in a few sprint car events, although he has been testing his own custom built sprint car for years. Did work as a competition director and official for USAC, and also released his autobiography in 2003. In more recent years he has worked as a driver coach. A race in his name, the Jack Hewitt Classic, is now held at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Ohio.
