Still races, albeit rarely, mostly in Spain, in historic races. Lives in Madrid and both his children became racing drivers in lower formulae, but daughter Maria was badly injured in a 2012 Formula 1 testing crash at Duxford, losing an eye. She then tragically died in 2013 as a result of the crash. Emilio, however has remained in the sport despite this, and he still runs a racing school and still has involvement, with his son, in lower formulae racing. Emilio also does a bit of TV broadcasting and helps with Maria's legacy and charities which formed after her death. A book about his life was released in 2021.
