Passed away in 2012. Until the onset of poor health, he ranched on his farm in Uruguay, after a long yachting career which included the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. Quit Formula 1 at the height of his career as he had recently been named as the South American distributor for Peugeot. Roberto carried on racing in his homeland, however, until 1963. Mieres also played tennis and rugby before suffering a broken leg, which meant he took up racing in 1947 in sportscars, proving more than able in that discipline. Roberto was a frequent visitor to historic events for many years until he fell ill.
