Enjoyed a long sportscar career, but also had success in Formula Vee and Formula Super Vee. Later worked as a racing driver coach. Sadly died in a car crash in 2012. Gerard was a long-time resident in Plan-les-Ouates, serving the local area as a local councillor between 1971 and 1979. Gerard also raced in many hillclimbing events, which, like so many Swiss racers (because of the ban of circuit racing), he started in. Pillon mostly raced Lola cars, but was also one of Sauber's early drivers. Pillon's main line of business though was as a vintner, founding Domaine des Balisiers, in Peney, Switerland. Pillon, who was a champion of biodiversity, had only just retired from running his business months before his untimely death.
