Until 2019, Alex was no longer racing, until a return to the sport in the Blancpain America GT World Challenge. He still lives in Menifee, California, where he still runs his Barron's High-Performance Kart business - he was running it when he was appearing at the Indianapolis 500. Barron raced pretty regularly in CART, but found a permanent IRL seat a real struggle, bar a season with the Red Bull Cheever team. In 2006, he moved down to Champ Car Atlantic, before a brief return to the IRL in 2007. In 2008, Barron briefly raced in Grand-Am before calling time on his career for a while.
